The Challenge: Promoting Agriculture in the Caribbean
Agriculture has been focussed on industrial crops: local food production has been neglected. This problem is being tackled by moving the perception of farming as an industry for poor peasants to one which needs to engage modern practices and active minds. A number of initiatives are being promoted by two regional agricultural institutes operating in the Caribbean, CARDI and IICA.Download the document

Presentations to Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Sept 12th 2018
Ravi Joshi, our Coordinator for the Pacific, made presentations to graduate and undergraduate students at the Faculty of Environment and presented his new book on Apple Snails. The event included a three hours interactive talk on Invasive Alien Species (IAS), to the 4th year undergraduate students. The invitation to discuss academic and research collaboration was extended by Dr. Ratcha Chaichana. Since December 2017 we both have been working together on Invasive Apple Snails in Thailand. Thank you Dr Chaichana for the kind invitation and for your interest in future collaboration. Note that Ravi is proudly wearing his TAA tie.

Establishment of a new branch for the Pacific Region.
The new TAA regional Coordinator for the Pacific is Dr Ravi Joshi. We provide below a note on Dr Joshi’s background and his initial thoughts on the development of the TAA Pacific region branch. Ravi is an Indian citizen, and his current positions are Adjunct Professor, University of South Pacific, Fiji, and Visiting Professor of Biology, University of the Philippines at Baguio, Philippines. His research interests include addressing family food and nutrition security in Asia, Africa and the Pacific through local production of a diverse range of nutritious foods using sustainable farming practices. He is particularly interested in helping communities living in small outer islands where the threats from climate change on food and nutrition security are most serious. Distance-learning diploma course in agriculture: progress.

Inaugural Meeting September 2015
